COA Legislative Day 2018

3/18/2018

Comments

Register today for the California Optometric Association 2018 Legislative Day in Sacramento. It's a celebration!!  We also have so much to do in 2018:
  • Thank legislators
    • for voting "AYE" on AB 443 (scope of practice)
  • Educate Lawmakers on:
    • Children's vision
      • importance of eye exams for all children
    • Online refraction
    • Corporate practice of optometry
    • CMA's "Lobby Day" is the same as COA's - so we need to be sure COA is heard!
  • Celebrate passage of AB 443!
    • Invite legislators to join you at COA's reception immediately following legislative visits
NEW THIS YEAR: COA has updated our advocacy tools to include a new Action Center App that can be accessed on your Smartphone!  You will be able to register, access your meeting schedules, talking points and contact information for Legislative Day without carrying a burdensome packet. You will even be able to send debriefing forms right from your phone!

Follow these three easy steps to download the COA Action Center Mobile App:
(It's quick and easy!)

1. Search for "votervoice" (one word) in your App store, or you can use one of these links:

    Google Play

    iTUNES

2. After you have downloaded the App, you will be prompted to enter your email address. A verification code will be sent to that email account.

3. After verifying your email, you will be brought to a 'Find Association' page. Start typing in 'California Optometric Association' and an option for 'California Optometric Association' will appear directly below where you were typing. Click/touch that full name & you'll then have access to our new mobile app.

SCCOS Annual Summer Picnic 2015 Recap & Photos

9/6/2015

Comments

SCCOS celebrated our annual summer picnic on July 19th, 2015 at Ortega Park in Sunnyvale. Over 110 people attended, including members, recent optometry school graduates, prospective members, students, sales representatives, and their families. Attendees dined on freshly made tacos, nachos, and churros at the fiesta. The kids enjoyed the jump house, the playground, and the water play area at the park. We had a great raffle with $200 in Amazon cards, an Apple TV, and Beats by Dre headphones. Some of our winners were Anita Gor, Mark Ichikawa, Audrey Louie, and Alex Chow. Thank you to those who attended, it was great to see everyone over the summer break.

Presenting Dr. Kelly Kageyama, OD: "This doctor was a SCCO grad. Starting early, he was very active in his optometric career. This outstanding doctor played many important roles when he was a student. He was the class vice president, the National Student Liaison (for the AOSA and the Optometric Extension Program), and also the Optometric Extension Program National Student Coordinator.

After he graduated in May 2012, he joined SCCOS and continued to dedicate his time and energy in making his profession stronger and better. He was the chairman of InfantSEE and the current Co-Chairman for the Young O.D.’s group. In 2013, he was selected as the Trustee of Public Affairs overseeing MCT School Vision Screenings, InfantSEE, Society Project, Access Program and Save Your Vision Month.

Under his leadership, various service projects that reached out to the underserved community were completed, which improved people’s quality of life and vision.

He is in private practice with his father in Campbell with an emphasis of Neuro- and Developmental Optometry.  He also has a second degree black belt in Japanese karate and is an avid Salsa and Latin Ballroom dancer.

I am honored to announce that the recipient of the 2014 Young OD of the Year is Dr. Kelly Kageyama."

-Jennifer Hsieh, O.D., F.A.A.O. (2013 Young Optometrist of the Year Recipient)

"I'm grateful and honored to receive the Young OD award from the Santa Clara County Optometric Society.  I would like to thank my parents for all their support over the years, including my father who I continue to learn from everyday.  Would like to thank all of those who I have worked with and who volunteered for the society to help make our profession better for all of us.  Look forward to continuing to stay involved."

-Kelly Kageyama, O.D. - 2014 Young Optometrist of the Year Recipient

"I am honored to be the recipient of the Santa Clara County Optometric Society- Optometrist of the Year 2014.  Thank you to all our past presidents, leaders and our wonderful Board of Trustees who make this award possible.  I have learned a great deal through the past few years, and I look forward to continue serving our membership."
