A huge thanks to all those who helped make our Society Project of the Year a success! On Sunday, April 27th 2014, our society participated in the 9th Annual Healthy Living Health Fair held in East San Jose.
This year, we had two projects running parallel at one location. In the first part of our project, doctors provided eye health and vision screenings to underprivileged and low income patients, with the purpose of identifying those who should be seen for a comprehensive eye evaluation. In the second part of the project, full eye examinations were provided to homeless patients, who otherwise lacked access to healthcare. The VSP mobile clinic included an optical lab allowing for frames and lenses to be onsite courtesy of VSP and Marchon. VSP provided equipment for both events. They also donated a total of 125 vouchers for patients who were unable to be seen and those who needed follow up care. Between the two events, we screened or examined over 130 patients! A huge thanks to all of those involved … all of the organizers, supporters, volunteer doctors who helped make our Society Project a success! A special thank you to Susan Schwaderer, our veteran organizer/contact person for the Healthy Living Health Fair... and to all those people involved in the running of this project: Karen Cheng, Tina Doan, Bic Trinh, Kelly Kageyama, and our wonderful volunteers who saw patients: Kenneth Schwaderer, Saul Levine, Hien Nguyen, Taylor Tran, Linh Vu, Susan Gordon, Phuong Pham, Jeremy Walz, Minh Nhat Le, Mai-Anh Nguyen, Deborah McBride, and Jenna Buckley (Dr. McBride’s daughter who helped with pre-testing and case history). |
